In the first act Hamlet seems to be in a perfectly sane state of mindthroughout all five scenes. It is in the second scene where the audience beginsto see a change in his character. Ophelia meets with Polonius and recalls themeeting she had previously with Hamlet. She tells her father that Hamlet cameto her disheveled and in a shaken state of mind, speaking of horrors. (Act 2Scene 2 line 94). Her father immediately believes that he is Mad for thylove? (Act 2 Scene 2 line 95). Opelia answers a question posed by Polonius bywhich she replied that she had told Hamlet that she could not see or communicatewith him any more. Her father makes reference to Hamlets madness once again byproclaiming that what his daughter said, hath made him (Hamlet) mad. (Act2 Scene 2 line 123). The argument of whether Hamlet is insane because of his love for Ophelia isoften debated, but a more confusing and complex situation is the struggle withinHamlets mind. His personal struggle is revealed to the audience in scene oneof the third act. In this scene Hamlet recites his famous To be or not to be-that is the question: (Act 3 Scene 1 line 64) speech. Here the the audiencetruly realizes that Hamlet is torn two ways in his life. To be or not to be,essentially is Hamlet debating on whether he should toil the pains of living insuch a harsh world and fight to avenge his fathers murder or take his own life. Hamlet is confused as to whether he should avenge his fathers death when hehimself, as Sigmund Freuds Oedipus Rex Complex suggests, wished to murder hisfather to gain all of his mothers attention. But, in the back of Hamlets mind,which keeps him in constant turmoil, is his loyalty to his family and moreoverhis father. Hamlet, in act four scene two, meets with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern andhe seems to be breaking down into insanity. Hamlet had just killed Polonius,and his two friends were questioning him as to where he placed the body of thedead man. The strange thing about this scene is that Hamlet seems to play withRosencrantz and Guildenstern and does not give them a straight answer. Hamlethas practically transformed into a different person and doesnt seem to becompletely sane. Next is another situation that cannot be totally explained. The situationbeing Hamlets delays in avenging his fathers death. The first that Hamletlearns of his fathers death is in act one scene five, where he follows theghost. Hamlet is told, by the ghost, that he (the ghost) is the soul ofHamlets father, and that he was murdered by Claudius. This all took place atthe beginning of the play and Hamlet waited until the end of the play to getrevenge for his fathers murder. Then again there are different perspectives asto whether Hamlet waited until the end to actually gain revenge. For within theplay there are many insinuations that Hamlet tortured Claudius all the way upuntil he killed the king. Two instances are particularly evident. In act three scene four, Hamlet enters his mothers bedroom at her wish and firstkills Polonius, then proceeds to make love to his mother. This action is calledthe Oedipus Rex Complex, which was invented by Sigmund Freud on the basis ofOedipus the epic poem by Sophocles. This theory states that all young men wishto destroy their fathers so that their mothers attention will be guided on themsolely. Also the fact that Hamlet thought that Polonius was Claudius adds tothe evidence that Hamlet had the Oedipus Complex. Hamlet was obsessed withhis mother but before the situation in the bedroom escalated his father, theghost, appeared and reminded him of the plight which he was supposed to beaccomplishing. Hamlets madness at times is justified and at other times is pure insanity. At first Hamlet seems to be going mad over the fact that he is not allowed tosee Ophelia. Then it seems that the fact that he is overwhelmed with hisfathers death, and begins to fight with himself over the thought of suicide. He is then determined to gain revenge for his father and goes about torturingClaudius in a systematic and genius manner. Finally, Hamlet is caught up in hislove for his mother which brings him back to the point of insanity. Inconclusion Hamlet is torn between two worlds, that of the sane and well and thatof the crazed and insane.

Act one, scene 3 is an important scene as it shows the transition between Macbeths two personalities from valiant and noble to ambitious: one of the plays mains themes. The three witches feature in this scene; this is why it is important to create an unsettled atmosphere with the use of stage techniques. Speech techniques are also used, prose is spoken by lesser important characters. Whilst other types of speech are used to show the attributes of the main characters, such as And the very ports they blow, all the quarters that they know. The use of rhyming couplets with the witches suggests an incantation and gives the impression of supernatural or sub-human beings. During this scene the witches prophesize Macbeths future, telling him, Hail thee thane of Cawdor, Hail thee who shalt be King hereafter. This creates suspense and introduces eth audience to the plot and main themes associated with the play. Additional suspense is created by the actors behaviour on stage and the use of lighting and scenery. William Shakespeare wrote Macbeth to flatter King James I between 1603 and 1607. During this scene they reveal their supernatural links using rhyming couplets and talk of sailing in a sieve: but in a sieve Ill thither sail. To develop the theme of being inhuman, they could chant in a monotonous tone. During the scene, the witches act as one, they are intimate with each other and often speak consecutively. The line The weird sisters hand in hand, suggests that they are close to show this their proxemics and orientation will suggest intimacy. This shows how the witches interact with each other, to stage their relationship they should laugh or cackle together, as if eth prophecy is a joke. Macbeth and Banquo had been fighting in a battle, so they would be tired and haggard from this, he also may be injured, for this reason Macbeth should walk on with his arm around Banquo supporting himself to show the injuries and to show immediately they are both close friends. They would also be slow looking up enquiring about the weather, so foul and foul a day i have not seen. As they enter the lights should turn blue as the red lights would create a false image of Macbeth and Banquo. Because they come from a battle in which Macbeth has showed himself to be like valours minion, they would be wearing blood stained armour which reflects both his nobility but also his blood thirst which is revealed in the latter part play. They will be talking very informally, showing they are close friends. To emphasise Macbeths change in personality when he finds out about the prophecy, whose murder is yet fantastical, the lights should turn red again. This creates contrast and adds the suspense. Through this scene there is tension between the witches, Banquo and Macbeth. Banquo and Macbeth dont know who or what the witches are: what are these, For this reason Macbeth and Banquo would be stood together away from the witches, to suggest they are frightened, they should have their hands holding the hilt of their swords. Their bloody language should subtly show the audience they are unnerved by this. Their shoulders should be hunched, their eyes open wide and looking around tentatively. When the witches reveal the prophecy it is a dramatic in the play, Banquos line That he seems rapt withal, suggests that Macbeth is motionless because of this dramatic news. To really articulate and dramatize this moment, flashing strobe lights could be used in conjunction with thunder sound effects. This relates to the scene setting: Thunder. Enter three witches. The thunder is a metaphor for the evil of the witches. To show Macbeths shock at the prophecy, a spotlight should concentrate the light on Macbeths face. This will direct the audiences attention to his facial expression. The actor playing Macbeth should keep still and have his mouth open slightly, this is to create an effect of awe and develop the audiences emotional understanding of Macbeth. From line eighty eight to the end of the scene Macbeth delivers soliloquies intermittently. These soliloquies reveal Macbeths inner thoughts and feelings, he says I thank you gentlemen. He is revealing that he believes the prophecies to be true. The soliloquies focus on Macbeth so the lighting of the other characters should be dimmed to show Macbeth is not talking to them. The soliloquies are important because they show Macbeths ambition swelling up inside and the excitement, The greatest is behind, to show this Macbeth should pace the length of the stage in deep thought. Before Macbeth delivers his soliloquy, Rosse and Angus inform Macbeth that he has become Thane of Cawdor as the witches prophesized. Unlike the witches, Rosse and Angus speak in blank verse, thus showing their importance and that they are close to God. In contrast the witches dont speak in blank verse, this shows there alignment with the Devil. Shakespeares uses a variety of linguistic techniques to show the ambition of Macbeth and the evil of the witches; for example soliloquies, rhyming couplets and prophetic fallacy. The importance of characters can be shown using blank verse and iambic pentameters, but how the play is staged has an impact on how people perceive the characters and understand them. With the Americanization of her daughter, she feels she may have closed the doors on part of her own self as well, and become herself, too American. Before Lindo came to America, she learned at an early age the power of invisible strength, of hiding ones thoughts until the time is right to reveal them. She discovers these values while in an unhappy relationship to a man she was betrothed to at an early age. ââ¬Å" I wiped my eyes and looked in he mirror. I was surprised at what I saw. I had on a beautiful red dress, but what I saw was even more valuable. I was strong. I was pure. I had genuine thoughts inside that no one could see, that no one could ever take away from me. School is the site for learning. Teachers teach. Students learn. However, a problem exists. There are many low-performing schools, such as Parham Elementary in Cincinatti (Bhatt 1). Therefore, some students are not receiving the education they need. However, this can be remedied. It has been proven that these schools can be developed into more productive environments (Bhatt 2). To improve education, class population needs to reduce in size, the emphasis on standardized testing must be lowered, and traditional teaching strategies must change. Currently, students are not receiving the optimum education they need to succeed in life. With this lack of proper education, students are growing up without the fundamental knowledge to be able to strive for success. An abundance of students are failing in school and are not equal with their peers due to traditional teaching techniques and poor school environment Bhatt 1). Changes must be instituted to ensure the success of future generations which lies in the hands of mostly uneducated students. There are many reasons why the education system is slowly dwindling into oblivion. Overpopulation in the classroom has become a rising epidemic (Helfand 2). The overcrowded classes make it hard for a teacher to teach lessons to so many students. Because of this, students do not receive the individual attention from the teacher theyà need in order to grasp information. For example, at Carwise Middle School in Palm Harbor, Florida, the average class has 30 students. Teachers, such as Sarah Jaehn, teach to 186 students a day at Palm Harbor Middle. She said, ââ¬Å"If class sizes were smaller I could have fun againâ⬠(Helfand 2). Jaehn, and others like her, feel they cannot get much accomplished with such large class sizes. Also, standardized testing is so overly emphasized in schools that it affects the way teachers perform. ââ¬Å"Mary Lee Smith found that teachers gave up reading real books, writing, and long-term projects, and focused instead on word recognition, recognizing spelling errors, language usage, punctuation, and arithmetic operations. (Shepard 2).â⬠With theà emphasis on standardized testing, the teaching methods have changed. Much observation has been completed in order to determine why education is at the level it is. Lorrie Sheprard, the dean of the school of education at the University of Colorado at Boulder and a member of the Naitonal Research Councilââ¬â¢s Board on Testing and Assessment, completed involved large scale teacher surveys and field studies. She concluded that, ââ¬Å"The efforts to improve test scores have changed what is taught and how it is taught. For example, teachers in elementary schools eliminate or greatly reduce time on social studies and science to spend more time on tested subjects (Shepard 2).â⬠This has proven that students do not learn as much as they need because they are busy learning information for standardized testing instead. Teachers are ââ¬Å"teaching to the testâ⬠rather than teaching the critical thinking type of learning that is used in the real world. This is shown by Linda Darling-Hammond and Arthur Wise, the authors of ââ¬Å"Beyond Standardization: State Standards and School Improvement.â⬠They discovered thatà teachers stopped giving essay tests to create more tests like the standardized ones to help prepare the students (Shepard 2). How is this in fact helping students if they are just learning to take a test instead of learning critical thinking which will help them in their work areas in the future? To illustrate how education needs to be altered we should view the results from Steven Adamowski. He was the superintendent in three school districts for 13 years and studied education reform thoroughly. This led to the miracle work he performed at Parham Elementary in the Cincinnati Public School system. From 1995-1998, only six percent of fourth graders there were passing the stateââ¬â¢s reading test, compared with the 28 percent of the rest of the district and almost half of the fourth graders statewide. To change this, Adamowski entered in1998. Then, the results started to climb. By 2003, 56.4 percent of fourth graders were passing the state reading test opposed to the six percent from 1995-1998. These results occurred because he removed poorly performing teachers and replaced them with motivated teachers who canà persuade students to learn. He also brought more faculty and staff which enabled the class sizes to reduce so there can be more personalized learning environments. Adamowskiââ¬â¢s work proves that education can be improved as long as there is the will to do it. (Bhatt 1-2). Experts in the education field have been researching extensively to target these problems and to find a way to fix them. Steven Adamowski stated that teacher evaluations must come about because they help identify weaknesses. He then discussed that proper training can be individually directed at these weak areas. He also declared that this motivates teachers to learn more, therefore being able to teach more (Bhatt 1-2). The real experts, teachers, say they have more on their plates when delivering lessons to a class with 30 students (Helfand 2). This is because they have to manage with interruptions and cannot specially educate each student individually. Lorrie A. Shepard argues that high-stakes testing is thought to improve education, but on the contrary, this standardized testing does more harm than good. She has found that teachers are forced to ââ¬Å"teach to the testâ⬠rather than with methods where students actually learn (Shepard 1). Thus, students are again not receiving the education they need. Vivian Troen, coauthor of ââ¬Å"Whoââ¬â¢s Teaching your Children,â⬠discussed that teachers mostly work isolated instead of sharing ideas and learning from one another. She believes that teachers need to work together in order to create an environment in which students desire to learn (Ruark 1-2). Whenever a problem exists, there is not always a solution to it. Luckily, in this case, there are many simple solutions to improve education. Educators should use helpful, but limited test preparation activities within the normal class plans. A variety of original material should be introduced to keep students interested so that no generalized knowledge is taught in preparation for a high-stake test (Shepard 4). This way, there is no specialized ââ¬Å"teaching to the testâ⬠but instead real teaching. Teachers should also work as a team instead of as individuals (Ruark 1-2). That way, teachers can learn new teaching methods and think more creatively instead of the usual notes and test format. Teacher evaluations also must be institutedà (Bhatt 2). In spite f these attributes belonging to an animal, as a human, I consider these attributes significant to my being. I am constantly moving, to move on in my life, hoping to overcome events and face obstacles that are inevitably coming my way. These events that will make me happy, sad and even experience pain; it is something that I expect myself to encounter ââ¬â Just as a wildebeest would expect as well. What we bring ourselves is pain but it gives us pleasure. My mind and body is as strong as the antlers on the wildebeest, which protect themselves from any dangers.We will always be moving forward no matter the circumstances. One can say, ââ¬Å"l was alone in the crowd,â⬠but that will never be given to express the life of a wildebeest and myself. We are constantly in a crowd or in a wildebeest's case, a heard. We are never alone, or feel alone. We are protective over the ones we love and together as a group, we choose the path that is the best choice. I always have peopl e around me ââ¬â my friends and especially my family. I am supported and loved all the time. My dad would probably be the leader of the herd.The leader is generally the one that helps dudes his herd into the right direction and give teachings so their child can learn more. There before me, a herd of wildebeests that makes the earth shake and the ground lift up from the crust. In Just seconds, the herd past by me in a quick motion, creating a gust of wind to run by me and I examine them carefully without fear. They were strong, with built bodies, sturdy hooves and determined faces. I look at the baby calves who are trying to catch up to the adults with all their might.They could not run slowly. In a matter of seconds all the hooves of the wild animals are all in sync. The baby calves became strong and fast and matched the rhythm of the adult wildebeests. They have that same look as the adults, fierce and driven. I watch the herd as I see them slowly fading away into the horizon, continuing to move on without hesitation. I am the baby calf. I was Just born and welcomed into this world, a world where I have the ability to learn fast and absorb my surroundings. In other words, I would Jump the gun to do anything to reach my goal.Every day, I constantly pick up information from the people and things around me. I feed on what is happen ing all around my community, Just as a wildebeest would feed on the grass that is their land. Though humans and animals seem like two very different things, they are Just as similar as cats and dogs. I quite agree with the author that these guidelines ought to be followed closely so that other children who are just normally active, for example, do not run the risk of being incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD while, at the same time, children like my friendââ¬â¢s son who really have this problem may be attended to early on. In addition, I was also particularly interested about the articleââ¬â¢s claim on the seemingly ââ¬Å"healingâ⬠effects of placebos. The article agrees with the popular view in the psychological community that confirms how much power our minds have over the issues of our bodies (Harrington, 2000). I find myself also agreeing with this view because I have been in several situations wherein my ailments ââ¬Å"healed themselvesâ⬠when I brought myself to think more positive thoughts rather than focus on my sickness. Case Study: Pregnancy Gestational Diabetes Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as glucose intolerance of variable severity, with onset or first recognised during pregnancy1. This definition includes women whose blood glucose goes back to normal after giving birth, those with undiagnosed type I or type II diabetes and also those with monogenic diabetic2. GDM is believed to complicate approximately 1% to 5% of all pregnancies and is associated with increased foetal and maternal morbidity and mortality1. The prevalence ranges from less than 1% to more than 10% due to the different populations or ethnic groups being studied and lack of uniformity on diagnostic test employed1. Women from Indian subcontinent have an increased prevalence rate of GDM by eleven fold whereas those from South East Asia have eight fold increased rate3. This is followed by women from Arab or Mediterranean with six fold and Afro-Carribbean women with three fold3. The pathophysiology of gestational diabetes mellitus includes increase in maternal insulin resistance, autoimmune à ²-cell dysfunction and genetic abnormalities which causing impaired insulin secretion4. Progression of insulin resistance normally starts near the mid-pregnancy throughout the third trimester and progresses to resistance level seen in Type II diabetes4. There are two type of insulin resistance namely physiological insulin resistant and chronic insulin resistant with à ²-cell dysfunction. It has been suggested that physiological insulin resistance is contributed by combination of increased maternal adiposity and effects of placental growth hormones4. A study revealed the defects of postreceptor in the insulin-signalling pathway of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue has caused the insulin sensitivity reduction in pregnancy5. The alterations in the pathway reduce the insulin-mediated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle which is a major tissue for glucose disposal5. The inc rease in physiological insulin resistance and alterations in glucose metabolism are believed been influenced by placental growth hormones. This is proven when resistance abates soon after labouring in women with normal glucose tolerance6. Chronic insulin resistance is a condition where patients have à ²-cell dysfunction which is presented before pregnancy and exacerbated during pregnancy due to some physiological changes6. Chronic insulin resistance occurred mostly in women with GDM and this had been demonstrated in a study where normal women have higher insulin sensitivity than those with GDM after physiological insulin resistance abates4. It is also believed that obesity play a role in developing insulin resistance since GDM women tend to be obese6. Patients with autoimmune destruction of pancreatic à ²-cells will then have inadequate amount of insulin which leads to hyperglycaemia. This subtype of patients most probably will experience rapid metabolic deterioration after pregnancy due to the autoimmune destructive condition6. Besides autoimmune à ²-cells destruction, genetic abnormalities caused by autosomal and mitochondrial DNA mutations also contributed to less than 10% of GDM6. The autosomal mutation, for instance maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) has a dominant inheritance pattern whereas mitochondria DNA mutations has maternal inheritance pattern4, 6. Both of these monogenic forms of diabetic have a younger age onset than non-immune t ype of diabetes and the patients do not suffer from obesity and insulin resistance6. The genes involved in the monogenic diabetes appear to posses a crucial influence on à ²-cells regulation which severe enough resulting hyperglycaemic if mutation occurs even with the absence of insulin resistance6. 3.0 Implications 3.1 Maternal implications GDM may implicate either immediate or long term mortality on pregnant women. Studies have demonstrated that GDM has complicated pregnancy by increasing duration of maternal hospitalization, caesarean delivery and also preeclampsia in pregnant women7, 8, 9. Caesarean delivery incidence is increased in GDM pregnancies in order to avoid birth trauma7. Women with GDM are also at increased risk to develop type II diabetes with trials showed that 30% to 50% former GDM women developed diabetes at 3 to 5 years after their delivery10. Women who have GDM with higher BMI are more susceptible to diabetes development. This is demonstrated by a study where approximately 60% of obese women and 30% of lean women during pregnancy have 15 years of prevalence in Type II diabetes11. The study is supported by other studies where maternal obesity plays an important role in developing diabetes later in life12. A considerable number of women with prior GDM were found to share some characteristics of those suffered from metabolic syndrome like elevated triglyceride levels, glucose intolerance, obesity and HDL cholesterol reduction. Women who are diagnosed with impaired glucose tolerance at 6-12 weeks postpartum showed increased triglycerides level and decreased HDL cholesterol as well as systolic blood pressure >140mmHg compared to those with similar BMI and normal glucose tolerance13. Atherosclerosis which is known to be contributed by inflammatory responses also studied in women with GDM with findings showed that hsCRP and interleukin-6, both are inflammatory mediators, were respectively higher in GDM women after 3 months postpartum than in normal subjects14. Studies of women prior GDM on insulin resistance and factors in metabolic syndrome suggest that lipid abnormalities and inflammatory mediators significantly related to cardiovascular threat. 3.2 Foetal and neonatal implications Offspring of mother with GDM have an increased risk of perinatal mortality as well as morbidity which involved hyperbirubinemia, hypoglycaemia, macrosomia, birth trauma, childhood risk of obesity and subsequently type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease15. Improper management of GDM women during pregnancy has contributed to a four fold increasing in perinatal mortality rates11. Approximately 20% of GDM pregnancies are found to be complicated by macrosomia which defined as foetus weight lies above the 90th percentile of gestational age or more than 4000g15, 16. Maternal nutrition is a crucial factor in foetal growth. Excess foetal growth is caused by diabetic intrauterine environment since glucose passes through placenta but maternal insulin unable to cross the placenta17. Besides, increased glucose load in foetal also promotes the growth hormone under influence of developing foetal pancreas and further encourages foetal growth and adiposity17. As a result, shoulder dystocia, a con dition where one of the shoulders being stuck behind mothers pelvic bone, preventing the birth of babys body can occur if foetal weight is above 4000g18. The chance of developing shoulder dystocia is even increased by two to six folds if the growth of the trunk and shoulder is not proportionate18. A study indicated that offspring of GDM women have increased body fat when compared with same weight offspring of controlled healthy women19. Offspring of women with GDM are also found to be on 30% heavier than expected according to their height20. The House and its Inhabitants In the story ââ¬Å"The Fall of the House of Usherâ⬠, Poe presents the history of the end of an illustrious family.à As with many of Poeââ¬â¢s stories, setting and mood contribute greatly to the overall tale.à Poeââ¬â¢s descriptions of the house itself as well as the inhabitants thereof invoke in the reader a feeling of gloom and terror.à This can best be seen first by considering Poeââ¬â¢s description of the house and then comparing it to his description of its inhabitants, Roderick and Madeline Usher. Poe uses several descriptive words in his portrayal of the house.à The readerââ¬â¢s first impression of the house comes from a direct observation from the narrator.à This unnamed narrator states, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit.â⬠à As the narrator continues to describe the house he uses several similarly dismal adjectives.à à à The gloom experienced by the narrator is not limited to merely the house itself.à The vegetation, which surrounds the area, is described as ââ¬Å"a few rank sedges and â⬠¦ a few white trunks of decayed trees.â⬠à He emphasizes these facets of the house and its environs by restating the descriptions reflected in a ââ¬Å"black and lurid tarn.â⬠à The narrator points out that the house seems to be in a dilapidated condition.à While he claims that the house appears structurally sound, he takes time to comment upon ââ¬Å"the crumbling condition of the individual stones.â⬠à He also emphasizes the long history of the house by stating that its features recall an ââ¬Å"excessive antiquity.â⬠To of the most striking descriptions used to portray the house are those of the windows and the fissure.à He describes the windows as ââ¬Å"vacant [and] eye-like.â⬠à With this description the narrator effectively anthropomorphizes the house.à Thus he almost gives the status of character to the house.à The other outstanding description is that of the fissure.à It is described as ââ¬Å"a barely perceptible fissure, which [extends] from the roof of the building in front, [making] its way down the wall in a zigzag direction, until it [becomes] lost in the sullen waters of the tarn.â⬠à à It is interesting to note that the narrator spends so much time describing a feature that he describes as barely perceptible. The first of the two Ushers to be introduced to the reader is Roderick.à He is first seen lying upon a couch.

Good morning everyone, I am Jialin Yin. Today, I want to talk about the earthquake. In 2008 May 12th, it was the first time that I felt the earthquake which was a 7.8-magnitude earthquake happened in Wenchuan China. At that time, I was a 7th grade student and sit in class room, then, I noticed that the light on the ceiling began to shake slightly. Then, the broadcast news reminds me, that was an earthquake and approximately 70000 people died in this severe natural disaster. During the speech, I will explain the earthquake in geographic view to you. Firstly, for what reason caused the earthquake? Generally, when rocks experience brittle failure, a kind of energy called seismic waves are released from the point of breakage. The seismic waves generated cause the ground shake, creating an earthquake. That point of breakage is called the focus, or hypocenter of the earthquake. A term people might be generally familiar with is epicenter which is the point on the surface of Earth directly above the focus, and the focus is the true center of an earthquake. Secondly, I want to talk about where are earthquake located, the first picture is the plate boundary. You can observe that there are many red dots on the second picture. These red dots represent epicenter of earthquakes that have occurred over the past 50 year. Actually, what you can notice right away is that most of these earthquakes occurred along with the plate boundaries. Moreover, we can also notice is that there are a few earthquakes that occur far away from plate boundaries, these kinds of earthquakes named intra-plate earthquakes. About only five percent of earthquakes that occur each year are intra-plate earthquakes. Look at this chart, here are five columns, they are magnitudes, frequency, description, example and energy release. In fact, from earthquake magnitude 2 to 6, the energy release and damage is not huge. The classes of seismic measure for the modern buildings are 5 to 6. However, if the earthquake magnitude is bigger than 6, the energy release can be destructive even billions dollar loss of life. Let us specify the damage of magnitude 8 and 9. The difference of energy from one magnitude to another is approximately 31 times.
